Charlie had seemed thoroughly surprised that Bella was going to be hanging out with Leah Clearwater today, but in a good way. He liked the idea of her getting away from Edward, she assumed. Her father looked almost as happy as when she was going somewhere with Alice. It almost made her wonder if leaving was a good idea, she should be enjoying his good mood, but he was probably just going to be going fishing or something. Bella felt a little bad that she didn’t spend more time with Charlie, but he didn’t exactly make it easy. He was always either fishing, or spending time with Billy and Sue, or working. It hadn’t mattered before, but now that she was going to be leaving him in a few months, she wondered if she should be making more of an effort to do things with her father. But maybe pushing him away gradually was the best option right now.
Bella dressed in a pair of jeans and a grey t-shirt, threw on a pair of converse and threw a bag over her shoulder that one of the Cullens, Alice or Esme probably, Bella hadn’t really paid much attention, had given her. As always, the engagement ring that she only took off to shower and do dishes (because it would hurt Edward if she took it off otherwise and since everyone knew it wasn’t a secret anymore) was on her left hand, weighing it down like a ton of bricks. The ring was pretty, like both Leah and Seth had said, but it just felt awkward on her finger. A permanent piece of her. She looked at it for a minute and sighed. No matter what anyone said, she still felt a bit embarrassed about this whole engagement thing, but the only people who seemed to have a problem with it were Jacob and Charlie.
Usually she drove to La Push to see her best friend Jake, but he wasn’t always in good spirits. Today she was going to see Leah, and they were going to be going to Seattle. Bella was excited to actually be going to a city. Small town life still wasn’t her favorite, though that was exactly the life she was choosing by marrying Edward. That or staying inside during the day. That didn’t really sound too appealing, but if she was with Edward, it would be alright. She turned the keys of the shiny black car that was sure to have more shields than a bomb shelter. The car was ridiculous and certainly drew attention to her, but she could take it on the interstate and it would get them to Seattle on one tank of gas. The car made her feel like everyone was looking at her, but the windows were tinted so black she doubted anyone could see her. They probably that she was a Cullen, which, she thought, she should start thinking herself as.
The drive to La Push wasn’t long but it did give Bella time to think. She had some things to sort out. She still didn’t know what to tell Charlie when she was going to leave. Really leave. She wasn’t going to allow herself around him, it would just be too dangerous for him. Then there was Jacob and her new friend Leah. She loved Jake, and she really liked Leah, and they both might be ordered to kill her and her new family. She wondered if she could talk Sam into letting them sit that fight out. Part of her hoped they took her out first, at least then she wouldn’t have to live without anyone. Another little selfish thing about her, but she couldn’t stand even a moment without Edward.
After what seemed like only a few minutes (and probably wasn’t far off), she pulled into the driveway of Sue Clearwater’s house and turned off the car. She didn’t plan on going in, they had a sort of long drive ahead of them. That and Bella was excited about Seattle. Barely able to contain her excitement, Bella knocked on the door.

Leah Clearwater was still somewhat surprised about her plans for the day. She was hanging out with Bella Swan, a person who, until recently, the Quileute couldn’t stand. Sue had seemed surprised when her daughter had told her that she was going to be hanging out with the human all day, and Leah understood where her mother had been coming from. But, in all honesty, Leah had never really given Bella a chance before deciding that she didn’t like her; she had just gone by how much pain the human’s presence had been causing Jacob for the last few years. But, after being forced to hang around her a few days earlier thanks to Jacob, Leah had found that Bella was actually a pretty cool person. Of course, there was still the issue of her having some kind of power over Jacob, but Leah was trying to look past that so that she and Bella could try to be friends. Lord knew that the twenty year old could use a few of those after pushing basically every one she had before out of her life to avoid further pain. Leah still had some issues of her own to work through, but as long as Bella was going to be able to withstand that and not let Leah’s mood swings affect her, it wouldn’t be too hard for them - or at least, that was what Leah was going to tell herself.
She hoped that getting to know Bella would help her understand the girl better, and thus make it easier to understand the power she held over Jacob. His thoughts before arriving at the fight with the newborns had told the rest of the pack that he had finally succeeded in getting Bella to admit that she loved him too, and Leah could tell just by the few hours they’d spent together at the Black’s house that it was true. What else was obvious, however, was that it wasn’t enough for the human to pick Jacob over Edward. The thing with that, however, was that she loved him enough that she didn’t seem to want to let him out of her life. Leah could understand that, but at the same time she wondered if Bella was going to let him move on or keep stringing hi, along on the sidelines while she spent her life with Edward. Leah already knew that it wasn’t her that he would want to move on with so it didn’t really matter, but she was still curious about it. She knew how much it hurt to see someone you loved be happy with someone else even if you had your own someone else, so she really wouldn’t blame Bella if that was the case. But, maybe Bella wasn’t as selfish as most people and wouldn’t care. Either way, Leah would eventually find out over time – especially if the two of them made this hanging out thing a regular occurrence.
As she got dressed, Leah thought about what Jacob would think about this whole thing. She could recall him telling her once that she might find Bella to be someone she could be good friends with, and of course she hadn’t listened to him until she had actually spent a few hours with the girl. Even then, however, Leah wasn’t sure if Jacob was right or not, but she would see soon. If he was right, then she dreaded the constant nagging about how she should listen to him more often. He was enough of an annoyance as it was when they were in wolf form, and she didn’t need him to be one when they were human too. As she thought about this, she heard a car pull up and a few minutes later there was a knock on the door. Grabbing her purse, Leah went downstairs, slipped on her shoes and then opened the door. “Hey, Bella!”

WHATSTHEWORSTTHATICANSAY t h i n g s a r e b e t t e r o f f t h i s w a y♥ s o l o n g a n d g o o d n i g h t ♥ SOLONGANDGOODNIGHT As Bella waited at the door, she couldn’t help but look back at her shiny new car. Okay, so this was the part she was going to get used to, being able to show it off to the people who actually mattered to her. Jacob was going to have a mechanicgasm when he saw this piece of work, and there was only one mechanic she’d let look at the engine: that was her Jacob. Her Jacob, because as long as he was in his pouty mood, he wouldn’t get anywhere near the vehicle. She wouldn’t even let Rosalie near it, but mostly because despite the strides she was making with the blond, she still didn’t trust that particular vampire all too much. Rose would like nothing more than to get Bella out of the family. She wondered if Rosalie would even go as far as to send Bree after her, and then she shuddered and mentally cursed herself for even thinking that any of the Cullens would do that. Sam or Jacob might, just for a reason to go after her favorite vampires, though.
The car really was too much, and it did get her way more attention than she wanted, but she had to admit, she didn’t fear for her life in this car. She did have the vague feeling that her car might get broken into, though, which was a bit nerve-racking. She’d just gotten this car and she didn’t want anything to happen to it, not that the Cullens couldn’t afford to replace or get it fixed, she just didn’t want to give Emmett another reason for making fun of her. Then she wondered if one of them would be following them into Seattle despite her string of promises that Leah would keep her safe. Carlisle at the very least seemed to trust her, but Edward had wished Seth was going too. That friendship never ceased to amaze Bella, but she enjoyed the proof that werewolves and vampires could get along. Maybe there was hope for her friendship with Jacob and Leah after the transformation after all.
When Leah answered the door, Bella couldn’t help but smile. Finally, seeing a city. Charlie was over the issues in Seattle since the crime rate had gone drastically down in the last month, due to the fact that most of the newborn vampires were now dead even though her father didn’t really know the reason for the decline, he couldn’t deny Bella the time to visit the city. She really needed this girls night. She didn’t want to say anything to Alice, but she was getting fed up with not knowing what was going on as far as the wedding went. It was sunny, so if any of the Cullens were following them, they’d be staying in a car for most of the day. That put Bella at ease a little.
“Yep, I’m driving today.” She held up her keys, which were on a heart keyring that Edward had left on the passenger seat of the car, and began on walking back to the shiny black vehicle. She was hoping it would blend in a little more in a city than it did in the small town of Forks, Washington. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and opened the door to the car her vampires had gotten her. “I can’t wait to get into the city. Charlie said to take our time and Alice is doing wedding stuff so I have to stay away from their place. Edward sounded pretty insistent that I drive. Something about the car being good protection or something.” She rolled her eyes as if to say how annoying it was that they all thought she was so fragile. She fastened her seatbelt and looked at Leah. “So, any idea where we should start?” She turned the key in the ignition when she was sure her friend was in and buckled up - Bella obeyed traffic laws because of her father’s profession - and then she was pulling out of the driveway.

This day was going to be interesting, especially considering before now Leah had already decided that she disliked Bella. She had grown up being taught not to judge a book by its cover, but there was just something about the human girl that had gotten under Leah’s skin. Maybe it was the way she continuously tortured Jacob or the fact that she was in love with a bloodsucker, but something had rubbed Leah the wrong way. Now that she had been forced to spend some time in Bella’s presence, she felt bad for judging the girl without really getting to know her and promised that she would at least attempt to be friends. That was what this shopping day was all about, after all, and despite earlier doubts Leah was actually feeling a bit excited. She really needed some female friends in her life since the only people she ever spent time with were the pack and her mother, and that got boring sometimes. She really did miss being able to have a day out with the girls, and though Bella Swan had never been at the top of her list of people to hang out with, she was now. It was going to feel strange for the first little while, but Leah was sure that it would be fine as the day went on.
She was surprised to see a smile on Bella’s face when she opened the door, but it was nice to see. It was a good change from the usual groans and sighs she usually got when someone in the pack saw her, but that was slowing changing too. The last few months had been hard and she had seriously debated trying to break away from the pack and just be on her own, but had decided against it when Sam overheard her thoughts about it, told Emily and got Emily to convince her otherwise. She had hesitantly listened to her cousin, which explained why she was still bound to the pack and Sam’s orders. Thankfully, he hadn’t used his power as Alpha to order her to stay, but getting Emily to convince her was probably just as bad. It was so unfair, and sometimes Leah found herself wishing that she still hate her cousin; it would have made Emily less convincing. Their persuasion skills was something that the two of them had in common, which was how Leah had more or less pushed Jacob and her other friends away a few years ago.
That, however, was something she was putting behind her and Leah was determined to enjoy this day in the city. After all the disappearances, her mother had been too paranoid to let Seth and Leah go anywhere near Seattle, but now that they had dealt with the source of those disappearances it was easier to talk Sue into letting them go. Of course, Leah really had no life outside of patrol so she had never gone to the city, which made this day even more exciting. Getting out of La Push was something she had wanted to do for a long time, and just when she was about to leave for school she had phased and thus, tied to the reservation until she could control it enough to stop. It was irritating, but there was nothing she could do about it now. “Oh you are, are you?”
Leah asked, looking at the keys in Bella’s hand. “Alright then.” She shrugged, following Bella out the car and stopping for a moment to look at the shiny new thing in her driveway. After a moment, she climbed into the passenger side. “He’s all about the protection, isn’t he?” she said, laughing at Bella’s eye roll. “I’ve never been to the city, so I’m no help there at all,” she commented. “Honestly, I’m just glad to be getting out of the house and La Push for a day, so thanks for that.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] TAG: Bella! WHATSTHEWORSTTHATICANSAY t h i n g s a r e b e t t e r o f f t h i s w a y♥ s o l o n g a n d g o o d n i g h t ♥ SOLONGANDGOODNIGHT Bella had always been told that she acted a lot older than she really was. Leah was two years older than the human girl, which wasn’t much, but with Leah’s history with Sam, it made her seem a lot older that the werewolf looked. Before, Bella hadn’t understood why the only female werewolf hated her so much, and to be honest, she still didn’t quite get how the transformation from hating Bella to the two girls being friends had happened, but the human wasn’t going to complain. She was more than willing to forget that Leah had once detested her, and for all Bella really knew, the woman still did and was just being ordered to be friendly, but Bella thought that Leah would have made her real feelings known by this point if that were the case. Instead the two were a bit awkward, but friendly enough. Bella figured the awkwardness was natural. After all, the reason Bella had become friends with the female werewolf was because she’d been with Jake the last few times Bella had come to visit La Push. Bella might be human, but she wasn’t stupid. What she deducted from that was that the two were close, probably closer than Bella wanted to think about. But could the human really blame her friend for moving on? Even if it hurt her to watch it?
Maybe this friendship was a bad idea, but she doubted Edward would have approved if one of Bella’s human friends went to Seattle with her. Her vampire boyfriend was overprotective like that, in the sense that he would insist he accompany her even if he was busy doing something, even if that something was as vital to living as feeding. Or he would have sent Alice along, and while Alice could pretend to be human and Bella’s human friends had gotten used to seeing Alice around, even sitting with them at lunch times their senior year (even though neither Alice nor Edward ever ate anything), Bella felt like including Alice would be like inviting the babysitter along. Bella Swan loved Alice like a sister - which was good since soon they would be sisters - but the pixie girl seemed to over-indulge when it came to traveling. And she knew Alice would be fuming as it was since she’d be unable to keep tabs on Bella’s future with a werewolf around. That was just fine with Bella though, she was sure to fall or something and the last thing she needed was a worried Edward running to save the day. Unless of course she was really in some sort of trouble, but she figured if something that bad happened, she and Leah could take care of it. Okay, so Leah would probably take care of most of it.
Thinking and driving at the same time was a bit hazardous when it came to Bella, but she pulled it off well enough. It was just unavoidable. The human mind seemed to run at the speed of Alice’s porche. She’d be glad when she got that super huge brain that allowed her to think of multiple things at once. Then she thought about Jacob and thought maybe a large thinking space wouldn’t be the best thing in the world. Luckily, Leah drew her off that train of thought with the confession of never actually going to Seattle. Bella couldn’t really believe it. Leah had lived here much longer than the human girl had and even Bella had gone to Seattle once or twice, though not very often. Heck, there was an airport there that she had taken to Port Angeles when she first arrived in Washington. She’d just assumed everyone had gone there, though now that she thought about it that was probably a really stupid assumption. Of course most of the wolves had been a bit preoccupied in the last two years or so, and most of them were still in their teens, though physically they looked well into their twenties.
“I’ve been a few times. Emmett put a GPS in here somewhere. So if we get lost it won’t be a big deal.” Her always protective vampires. What would she do without them? Oh yeah, be in complete and total love with Jacob Black, not knowing that Edward existed. Part of her wanted that so bad, but the vast majority of her body screamed at that other part. “There’s a zoo, and a few museums… and a lot of shopping centers of course. But I was thinking we could have dinner at SkyCity in the Space Needle before we head back. It’s supposed to rotate or something so you can see the city while you eat.” Bella shrugged, showing that she admitted she didn’t really understand how that all worked.

Leah still wasn’t sure how this whole transformation had happened, since she had pretty much made up her mind that she already hated Bella back when she first met her. But, Bella seemed like a constant presence around the pack because of Jacob and honestly it was exhausting hating everyone, so she decided to at least try and get along with the girl. Bella seemed willing to put their bad past behind her, so Leah would too. She still didn’t approve of the fact that the human was still stringing Jacob along but was clearly never going to choose him, but she understood how it was when you didn’t want someone you loved to love anyone else, even if that person wasn’t your first choice. Leah had done that with Jacob a long time ago back when they were younger, though he didn’t actually know that and probably never would. She had liked the boy all those years ago, but then she’d met Sam and they’d started dating so her feelings for Jacob had been pushed aside. Again, he had no idea and he never would as long as Leah could help it, but it was easier to understand Bella when she’d done the same thing in the past. Girls were funny like that sometimes.
She wasn’t sure if forming a friendship with Bella was a good idea or not, but she had decided to actually give the girl a chance this time instead of just hating her upon first glance. Leah had a bad habit of doing that sometimes, but she was trying to get better. She blamed it on the fact that Jacob had once been her good friend and then Bella had swooped in and replaced her after their fight, then kept hurting him. That, however, was no longer a deciding factor for Leah. Bella seemed like a good person and a loyal friend, which was really something that the twenty year old shapeshifter needed in hr life – if only to get a break from the pack and have some kind of social life again. Her mother, though confused at first, had been thrilled to hear that Leah was going out for the day instead of staying locked in their house until it was time to patrol, and Leah was secretly glad to be getting dragged out too. Nobody really made that effort with her anymore because they assumed she would say no, though most of the time that was pretty accurate. She hoped that neither girl would regret this decision to hang out for the day, because that would kill all chances of Leah getting back some kind of a social life. Somehow, however, she doubted that it would be a mistake. The two girls kind of balanced each other out and brought what the other didn’t to the newly formed friendship.
Of course, they weren’t officially friends yet, but it seemed like they were getting there and it was nice to have a female friend back in her life. Leah felt embarrassed to admit that she had never been to the city, but it was true. Her parents had never really taken Seth and herself out of La Push except to go to Port Angeles. They had gone on a few family trips when she and Seth were younger, but never to Seattle and those trips were mainly to visit relatives on other reservations. It sucked, but that was how life had been for the Clearwaters. Now, with Harry gone and Leah and Seth part of the pack the family was even more tied to La Push than they had been in the past, and the only time Leah would have ever gotten to go to the city was if the entire pack chased a vampire there. She nodded as Bella explained about the GPS, glad to have it in case they got lost. That was a definite possibility if Leah had never been there and Bella had only been there a few times. “Well, that’s good. Getting lost and prolonging coming back might not be so bad though,”
she said with a smile. “It would be an adventure!” she said with a laugh. “Sounds good, I’ve always wanted to go to there. The food’s supposed to be really good,” she said, feeling even more excited for the day. “So, shopping and then dinner. It sounds like a perfect girls day out.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] TAG: Bella! WHATSTHEWORSTTHATICANSAY t h i n g s a r e b e t t e r o f f t h i s w a y♥ s o l o n g a n d g o o d n i g h t ♥ SOLONGANDGOODNIGHT The car was silent for a little while. Silence wasn’t miserable for Bella and she hoped it wasn’t for Leah either. The human could sit in silence for a while without getting bored. She didn’t feel the need to speak to fill the silence either. It was one of the things that she liked about living with Charlie; both of them didn’t mind long silences. Living with her dad was sort of peaceful… when there weren’t angry vampires after her or werewolves weren’t threatening to end her life if she became one of the Cullens. Which was just in a few months. Sometimes those few months felt like they were taking forever, while other times the days seemed to move by much more quickly. Now the slow moments were characterized by the time she spent with Edward, because he wouldn’t give her what she wanted until after they were married. The times that went fast were when she was with her other friends, particularly her pack friends, since she was sure that she wouldn’t get to spend time with them after she was married, and coincidentally, a vampire.
But the drive to Seattle was three and a half hours long, and that much silence was probably going to get to them. If Alice or Edward were driving (or any of the Cullens for that matter), they’d probably reach Seattle within forty-five minutes or less. But Bella had a police officer for a father and for the last couple of years, her truck had only gone so fast, so she was used to going the speed limit. She barely went just above it even now that her car was faster than the old truck. Besides, she had a lot of things to think about - like her upcoming death. What the hell was she going to tell Charlie about her sudden disappearance? And could she convince the pack that it wouldn’t be necessary to kill her new family? That was first on her list, though. Before she even turned into a vampire she wanted to convince the werewolves that the best way for them all to carry on was for her to become a Cullen officially, gold eyes and all.
“I’m usually not a big fan of shopping,” she admitted with a smile. “Alice is always trying to get me to try on everything in the store, and then I have to sit for hours while she picks out the perfect outfits and tries to do my hair and make-up. But I’m actually excited about this trip. I really needed to get away I think.” Though she couldn’t exactly get her mind off of her vampire family, she did need to get out of Forks while it was still possible to do what she wanted instead of eating everyone around her, though Edward assured her that she wouldn’t want to drain any of the wolves, simply because they would smell bad.
She turned the stereo on so that there was light background noise. It was one of the cds Edward listened to and Bella had to admit she didn’t exactly know what it was. Something from his past she was almost sure. She glanced at Leah with a weak smile. “I’m not entirely sure how to work the radio yet and I should probably keep both hands on the wheel,” she breathed a laugh, feeling kind of stupid for not knowing how to work things yet. “I think the cd case is in the glove department if you want to flip through it. I’m not really sure what’s in there either. Edward has a lot of music.” She could feel her cheeks turn a light pink in embarrassment. Really, very little in this car had been moved over from her truck, and since Edward owned more music than Bella’s brain could possibly register, he had added the cds in there as well. Sometimes, she felt like she was driving their shiny Volvo instead of this little black car.
