It was a sunny afternoon in Forks, Washington which was a rarity in the Olympic peninsula. Rosalie was currently in the woods stalking her prey, a deer. Not exactly the best tasting prey out there but there was an abundance of them. She wouldn't go after an endangered animal. It was against the guidelines Carlisle had set up for her and her family and she wasn't going to break those guidelines. As stubborn as Rosalie tended to be, she wasn't foolish.
Rosalie was stealth as she tracked her prey, it had been a few weeks since her last hunt and she was hungry. Bree, the newest member of the coven had only been residing in the Cullen house for a few weeks and a lot of the family's attention was focused on the newborn. She is still very young, it would be all to easy for her to slip up but it seemed most of the family had the faith in her that she wouldn't slip up. Rosalie wasn't too sure about her just yet and it was probably obvious. Rosalie hadn't exactly mastered the art of being subtle about her feelings, nor did she plan on doing so despite her family hoping for her to do so.
Rosalie couldn't help but feel that Carlisle had made a mistake with taking her in. She knew the struggle of being a newly turned vampire. In her mind Bree was a liability to her and her family. Thankfully Jasper at the very least saw her point of view on this whole situation. However Carlisle had faith in the young girl that she could do this. If only Rosalie could be that confident in someone. However she didn't, Rosalie believed that trust was earned.
Realizing she needed to get out of her thoughts and actually hunt, Rosalie sighed when she realized that the deer she had been hunting had gotten away. Great, so now Bree was distracting her from feeding. Scowling at the thought she set out to find something else to ‘eat’. Quickly moving about the forest she heard a deer drinking some water out of a small lake and she readied herself to attack the oblivious animal. She was halfway in the air by the time the deer tensed and it had no time to escape as she fell heavily on top of it, pinning it to the ground. After disposing of the deer she was still hungry and she licked her lips to get the blood off as she tried to sniff out something else to drink the blood from. However her senses picked up something much more appetizing and she set off in its direction.

Days without Edward were slow. Days without Edward and Jake were even slower. Normally, Bella was attached at the hip to her future husband, and when he was hunting she spent her time with her best friend and werewolf, Jacob Black, who she was actually sort of staying away from for the time being, because Jake had made her realize that she loved him too, but it still wasn’t enough. Not enough for Bella to leave Edward and his family, even if some of them scared her now. The newborn Bree was the newest addition to the Cullen household and was much different than the vegetarian vampires Bella was used to. Bree was trying to be a vegetarian, but Bella wasn’t going to test her horrible luck on a newborn vampire. The red-eyed vamp had been practically trained to kill her; Bella wasn’t crazy enough to want to get around the girl. Not until Edward made her immortal at least.
But sunny days were just too good to miss out on in Forks. Bella certainly wasn’t going to spend the day inside. A thought crossed her mind, maybe finding the meadow on her own again wouldn’t be too difficult. She’d already made the trip once by herself, of course, Jake had helped her with at least the first half. The last time she’d been alone in the meadow hadn’t been the happiest of times, but that was different. Edward wasn’t leaving her now, though he probably should with the way she’d acted. She’d practically made him choose her over his family during the whole incident with Victoria, though it’d turned out that it had been a good idea to have a vampire there. Then she had used Jacob as her personal space heater. She’d kissed the werewolf, but she’d also told Jake that they couldn’t be together. Edward hadn’t so much as raised his voice at her.
Without really thinking it through, Bella was getting dressed in her boots, the only thing she’d bought with her discount at Newton’s, a pair of Capri blue jeans, and a white tank top under a flannel shirt. Fashion wasn’t really her thing and she was sure Alice would cringe if the pixie had seen this outfit, but she didn’t particularly care. Her outfit was finished as she tied her hair back in a ponytail and headed out. She gave her truck a look before she climbed in, sure that this vehicle wasn’t going to last very long, and she wasn’t looking forward to the ‘before’ care that Edward probably already had lined up for her. What was it about vampires and werewolves and fast cars? As if Bella needed to go any faster than fifty-five miles an hour.
Her beat up truck got her to the forest, but when she started walking, she realized she actually had no idea where she was going. Before, she’d had a map and a compass, but now she had nothing but her memory, which was far from perfect. Just her luck, she was lost. And a little too late, she heard something a little too fast coming through the trees.

Rosalie was so caught up by the blood craze she was feeling right now. Despite not having the ability to feel and manipulate emotions like her brother Jasper, having a newborn in the house was difficult for Rosalie. Aside from the fact that she worried constantly if Bree would ruin everything for her family and not trusting her, she seemed to make her crave blood more. She had never tasted human blood before, and for that she was proud however the temptation when she was younger vampire had been so severe at times, it had been incredibly difficult to get her mind off of the blood. The way it pulsed through the fragile body of a human, the way it smelled. She knew for sure if she had ever consumed human blood, it would’ve been a lot more difficult for her to make the transition.
Even if Bree wasn’t the blonde vampire’s favorite person to be around, she had to give it to the young teenager. She didn’t complain about the taste of animal blood as much as she was expecting her to. Especially after having only consumed that since her transition. Speaking of human blood, that’s what Rosalie had gotten a big whiff of just a few seconds ago. The wind carrying the delightful scent as if to tease her. Her mind wasn’t completely focused and as such, she wasn’t really thinking of the danger she was getting herself into. She was still so thirsty and this smelt so much better compared to that of an animal’s blood. It wasn’t very often humans ventured off into this particular part of the woods, she and her family made sure to stay away from where humans tended to go. Especially since when they were hunting, it was like a switched flicked on and nothing else mattered. This was the only time Rosalie could let her animalistic side completely take control, for her to be herself fully and not fear people finding out.
Usually Rosalie hunted with someone else, but today she had gone off herself and it seemed like that might’ve not been the best idea. She was getting closer to the scent and her body shook with how delicious the smell was, how much she was craving to taste it. “Just a few more yards and then…” the monster inside of her trailed off as she came upon what she had declared her prey and she stopped abruptly now seeing who it was. Bella. Her eyes focused in on the girl and she was sure Bella, no matter how slow humans tended to be, would soon realize she was there staring at her. What was she doing out here? She tried to control the monster inside of her, trying to tell her to go for it, this was her chance.
No, she wouldn’t do that. Aside from not wanting to break her record of never tasting human’s blood she could not hurt her brother or family like that. As much as it disgusted her how much her family seemed to love her human, she would not kill her. She held in her breath, not wanting to be assaulted by Bella’s smell at the moment until she could fully calm down. “Bella, what do you think you’re doing out here?” She managed to snap out, coming off as a bit more rude than she had planned to. However Rosalie was not happy about this, her hunting was now ruined and she had almost killed a human. Even if she wasn’t exactly a fan of this particular one. “I thought you would be with Alice or Edward, or that mutt.” Of course ‘that mutt’ she was referring to was Jacob Black. Rosalie took a cautious breath out and inhaled Bella’s scent, she needed to be able to breathe around the human again eventually. It seemed she had more control now and so she started to breathe again. “You really shouldn’t be out here Bella.” Rosalie said with disapproval, having yet to move since finding her out here. “That could’ve been Bree instead of me.” She was trying to get her point across that it was dangerous for the little human to be out here right now.

Why did it have to be Rosalie Hale? It could have been any one of the other Cullens (aside from Bree of course because of obvious possible death reasons) and Bella would have been more than happy to see them. It could have been Carlisle, the compassionate father figure who on more than one occasion took care of Bella’s injuries. She would have been thrilled to see Esme or Alice, though she was sure Alice was probably hunting with Edward farther away. Even Jasper or Emmett would be welcome right now, though Jasper would have probably been distraught over her emotions and Emmett would have teased her about being clumsy or how she couldn’t stay out of trouble. But not Rosalie. Rosalie in her undeniable beauty, was hands down the most gorgeous woman in the world. This was the girl who was intended to be Edward’s. A girl who Tanya, the Denali who liked Edward, didn’t have a hope of outshining. Bella could maybe get over all of that, if this girl didn’t also hate her guts.
This was the woman who had found her, lost and stumbling through the forest. Suddenly, wasting the sunny day inside sounded like a brilliant option for Bella. She wished she’d stayed home, even if Charlie’s depressed mood on account of her upcoming marriage brought her own mood down a bit. Truthfully, Bella tried not to think of herself so much as the girl who would be walking down the isle as Edward’s wife. It was easier to think of the event in the past tense than the future. She wanted the whole thing to be over. Just a few more months away.
“Oh, hey, Rosalie. I was just… looking for something.” Bella bit on her bottom lip and took a step backward. The last time she’d been in a forest, the last time she was looking for the meadow alone, she’d also run into a vampire - a very different vampire. The memory of Laurent was only too clear at the moment, with Rosalie’s beauty right there in front of her to remind her of the danger. If it had been another Cullen, Bella wouldn’t have thought twice about a smile or approaching the vampire, but she was positive Rosalie still didn’t like her much, despite the fact that they’d had a bit of an understanding the night Alice had kidnapped her when Edward was hunting before the whole newborn attack. “The meadow, actually. But I got a little lost.” She didn’t add that she couldn’t wait for the day when she didn’t need a map, and could just follow Edward’s scent into the forest.
Rose might have been able to stand all day, but Bella certainly could not. So she took this time to take a little break, and found a tree that was knocked over, who knew, it might have been from a vampire. It looked new enough. She took a deep breath and tried not to make eye contact with her soon to be sister-in-law. “Edward left my room this morning. I told him to have fun with mountain lions. He said he’d be back by tonight…” She felt weird having to explain herself to Rosalie, when she knew the woman probably didn’t really care about what Bella was up to. For all she knew, Rosalie was sent out here by one of the Cullens to make sure she didn’t get into any trouble. “And Jacob I think is with the other werewolves right now.”
She sighed as Rose said that she really shouldn’t be out there, and then shuddered when the vampire said that she was lucky it wasn’t Bree. Bella had honestly thought that there wasn’t a real risk of seeing Bree since usually one of the Cullens were with the new vampire, but now that Rosalie had brought it up, the girl was definitely someone Bella did not want to run into in the woods. “Sorry. I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal, really.” She frowned slightly, figuring that this was just another notch in Rosalie’s reasons to dislike Bella bedpost.

In a way Rosalie was sort of relieved to see Bella, because it made her realize that she could’ve killed someone innocent. As much as she didn’t care for Bella, she knew that Edward would not be pleased at all if she had killed or harmed Bella in anyway. Still, it now meant that she now had to go home. She couldn’t continue hunting, though she wanted to, because a human was in the area where she usually went to hunt. Still being ‘hungry’ was having a bad effect on Rosalie, she was going to be a lot more snappy than usual until she could feel fulfill her need for blood. So she hoped the human girl would leave quickly.
Looking for something? What could Bella be looking for in the woods? “So deep in the woods?” She asked in a rather rude tone. She didn’t have much patience for people, but especially Bella. She was still angered by the human that she didn’t seem to take her advice about staying human, even after Rosalie explained the heartache of being immortal. It wasn’t everyday Rosalie opened up on her past, she didn’t like to show her weaknesses either. She had been taught as a child that showing your weaknesses was a bad thing to do. That people would judge you negatively because of that.
Eyes, a deep brown, focused on Bella and Rosalie’s lip had formed a thin line. Clearly not pleased with Bella’s presence at the moment. She listened as Bella explained that she was looking for the meadow and it took Rosalie a few seconds to realize what she was talking about. Edward had mentioned it a few times, not to her in particular but she had heard him talk about it with the others. When it came to Edward’s love life, Rosalie wasn’t very interested and she was sure he was well aware of that. “Mutts.” Rosalie growled out, too low for Bella to hear when the brunette mentioned that Jacob was with the other shape shifters. Despite them helping with the fight, Rosalie still wasn’t fond of them. “I suggest you go home, Bella.” Rosalie said, not trying very hard to be polite but at the same time her tone was less snappy than before. She knew she had to keep her emotions in check because if she got too worked up with the hunger she felt right now, it wouldn’t end well. Taking a deep breath, the smell of Bella’s blood did nothing to calm her and she quickly exhaled. “It’s not safe out here right now and I’m still hungry.” She wasn’t trying to instill fear on Bella so much as she was trying to give her a hint that she wanted to be alone, to finish what she had started.

Standing in front of the most beautiful woman in the world wasn’t something that exactly helped a human’s ego. In fact, it usually made Bella feel very inferior. The Cullens were good at everything, and Bella was the clumsy girl that had just fallen into their lives. There was no real reason that Bella could find for Rosalie to hate her, just that she was choosing to become a vampire. But what other choice did Bella really have? The Volturi were going to be coming for her and as if that weren’t enough, she really needed to put some distance between herself and Jacob. She thought being a vampire was a sure way to do this, since he’d hate her after she became what he called a bloodsucker, which was actually pretty accurate except the Cullens didn’t drink human blood so it was sort of just the equivalent to a human who really loves rare meat. That thought made Bella want to gag but she resisted the urge just so she wouldn’t look weird in front of Rosalie - the girl who had been meant for Edward. That thought still sent jealous waves through her body, the same thing that happened whenever she thought of Tanya, the girl who actually wanted Edward.
Okay, she had to get her mind on something else. Maybe the fact that Rosalie wanted her to go home. Right now, Bella would have loved nothing more than to do just that, but she couldn’t find her way back to her old truck, which was breaking down and would need replaced soon, unfortunately. This time she wasn’t going to call Jacob. She needed to learn to just accept things from Edward, especially since she’d promised that he could buy her another car. Probably one that would get her way too much attention.
Bella sighed and leaned her back against a tree, still sitting on a branch that had fallen over. “I’m sorry I interrupted, Rosalie,” though she wasn’t really sure if she was sorry or not, she was grateful that the blond woman had stopped in time to not kill her, “and I’d love to go home, but I can’t figure out how to get back to the road. I told you, I got lost. I’ve been stumbling around out here for a while now.” She pulled the hair in her ponytail to tighten it a little; she could feel stubborn loose strands falling out which made her a little angry since it probably meant that she looked twice as horrible as she had when she’d gotten into the truck. “It was really stupid of me to try and find it. Last time I had a compass and a map. I thought for sure I’d be able to find it again, but I guess I was wrong.”

Rosalie knew how intimidating she could be to others, especially humans. Whether it be their instinct knowing she was dangerous, or the fact that her beauty was so overwhelming to most people. Even as a vampire, she was a lot more beautiful than most. In a way, Rosalie did use intimidation to her advantage, especially when she was not interested in something. Like Bella's problems right now of her being lost. Well, it was more than just wanting to not deal with the human she was also hungry. Having a human here would just end badly, despite the fact that Rosalie had never killed a person before, the smell of her blood was very much tempting at the moment. Her thoughts also were also rather dark at the moment, and it would be in both of their interest if the little human left.
A bitter look was on Rosalie's face, not happy that Bella was still here, an instinctive growl rumbled through her chest as the wind carried Bella's scent toward her. Maybe that would get her to leave. It was so nice to see Bella getting comfortable here, no she didn't have to worry that a vampire was right there and hungry. A scowl came to her face as she looked down at Bella. Why couldn't she just get the hint and leave?
Rosalie held back from rolling her eyes at Bella's apologize, if she was really sorry she would've already left. When the wind carried her scent again, Rosalie went back to holding her breath again. Despite her being able to hold her breath for however long she needed/wanted to, it still felt unnatural for her. Even if oxygen really was of no use to a vampire. That is what maps are for, Bella." Rosalie explained bitterly, "So you don't get lost and interrupt my hunt." Rosalie was always a bit blunt, but at that moment she was down right annoyed. "Yes it was stupid of you." The blonde told her rudely, a scowl still on her features. Great, so now she was stuck with the lost human. She'd have to put off her hunting to help the idiotic girl out and she was not happy about it. As if that weren't obvious already. "If I give you directions, do you think you can remember?" Rosalie practically growled out the question, just wanting to get back to hunting.

What the hell? It seemed like no matter what Bella did, she was always doing something wrong in Rosalie’s eyes. Don’t wander in the forest (that hikers did anyway so why should Bella be any different… even if she was much more clumsy), don’t turn into a vampire, don’t hang out with that werewolf… The list seemed endless. She just couldn’t make the blond vampire happy. Why was Rosalie so much more difficult than the rest of the Cullens? It appeared as though everyone else, aside from Edward, wanted Bella to be a vampire like them. It would make things so much easier. This was, of course, the main reason Rosalie didn’t like Bella. The beauty had explained to the beast (har har) that she was choosing wrong by being so committed to becoming one of the undead. Of course, Rose hadn’t exactly put it that way, but still. The only two Cullens who wanted her to stay human, and they had been meant for each other. Bella couldn’t have been the only one who got that. Edward and Rosalie had more in common than Bella thought either of them realized. It made Bella feel a little self-conscious. Carlisle didn’t see a problem with it because he didn’t want to lose Edward, Esme wanted to keep her around also for Edward’s sake. Alice and Emmett seemed to want her around just for the fun of it, and Jasper just didn’t want to eat her. Hey, she’d take what she could get. But Rosalie didn’t want her around, and Edward didn’t want to take away her soul, not that Bella thought there was an issue there.
Rosalie’s words cut Bella like a knife, though the human shouldn’t have taken offense to them since she knew how the vampire felt about her. Still, it wasn’t fun to hear about how stupid you were and that you were lost. The blond even growled at her a little, something Bella hadn’t missed. Normally, the Cullens didn’t scare her. She found them fascinating and she wanted to be one of them. So a little growl didn’t really frighten her. It did make her feel even more unwelcome.
“Right, like I could remember directions out of a forest. Take a left at the large tree?” If her voice came out a bit sarcastic, well, she was just sick of the way Rosalie treated her. No one else in the Cullen family (aside from Bree, hey, maybe the newborn and the blond woman got along) treated her like she was a piece of dirt. She didn’t demand respect from them, she hardly demanded anything from them as a whole. She wanted Edward to change her, but she didn’t ask everyone in the family to take a bite. Frustrated, she stood up and started walking for what she thought was the way out. “Maybe you have a photographic memory, but some of us do not.” She practically growled herself, fed up with the way the blond woman couldn’t be made happy. “Sorry I ruined your little hunt, or your frickin’ life, or whatever it is I messed up for you this time.” And if she didn’t sound sorry, well, she thought she had a right to be a bit angry.

Admittedly, Rosalie was amused to see that Bella had a bit of a backbone now. Though her dramatic responses were unnecessary and irritating to Rosalie at the moment. It had always been obvious that Rosalie wasn’t fond of Bella for quite a few reasons. The main reason being that she feared that she’d tell someone that Rosalie and her family were vampires, she also worried for her brother despite the fact that they didn’t always get along, and Rosalie was envious of Bella in some ways. She had opened up to Bella about the latter when she talked to her a couple of months ago, hoping to convince Bella to stay human to live and have a normal human life. Something Rosalie still wished for.
When Bella basically ignored all of the good points Rosalie believed she had made and said she still wanted to become a vampire, yes Rosalie was upset with Bella again. Since then, Rosalie had been a bit less keen on being around Bella when she came around the house. Despite the fact that she had no say when Bella came and went, Rosalie wasn’t always thrilled about it though it seemed just about everyone else was. Sure Rosalie could see some of the reason the others liked her, not that she’d ever admit it, but Rosalie just couldn’t feel the same way they did about her. It seemed the only other to really dislike Bella’s company was Bree and that was because she was still a newborn and craved human blood. Bree wasn’t a good friend in Rosalie’s book either, she didn’t trust her and she feared that she’d somehow mess things up for her and her family. Yet she trusted Carlisle’s decision to take the newborn into the family, so she dealt with it.
Rosalie cracked an amused smile when Bella got sarcastic with her, “Sarcasm doesn’t suite you Bella.” Rosalie said snidely. Why couldn’t the human just leave? “Well that’s what maps are for Bella.” She told her condescendingly when Bella told her that not everyone had a photographic memory. Rosalie glared at Bella when she got all dramatic with her, even Rosalie could only handle so much drama and it was not something she needed right now. “If you don’t leave now, I will not be held responsible for my actions.” Rosalie growled out, “I’ve warned you to leave and this is your last chance.” Rosalie had always been known for having a temper, and it only escalated when she was around people she didn’t care for and much worse when she was hungry and there just happened to be a temping human within reaching distance.
