This was day number two that Leah had been given a break from patrolling and she couldn’t deny that she wished that she’d never have to do it again. It was nice to be able to just stay home and relax, and not have to shred anymore clothing just to patrol around a perimeter that had not seen any action in what seemed like forever. Admittedly the lack of action was disappointing to Leah, who only enjoyed the wolf thing for sole reason of being able to take out her anger on some bloodsuckers. She wouldn’t have minded taking it out on the Cullens either, but since there was a treaty in place that had not been broken yet, she was forbidden to. But just thinking about them, especially Edward, made her blood boil. He was the reason that Jacob could not have the girl he loved, and was the reason why Leah and the pack had to hear Jacob pining for her every time they phased. It was annoying, but then again she wasn’t one to talk since she knew her own thoughts weren’t exactly pleasant either. But still, she wished there was something she could too to help Jacob, even it meant going near them. She knew what he was going through since she’d gone through it herself, and sometimes still felt the pain of it deep inside when she was alone and didn’t have to worry about anyone over-hearing her thoughts. That was why she preferred her human form to her wolf form and liked staying home by herself whenever she could, because then she got privacy and freedom and wasn’t afraid to be judged.
On that particular morning, Leah had woken early to the smell of her mother making pancakes in the kitchen. After dragging herself out of bed, she was planning to get down there and eat before Seth beat her to it and there was nothing left, then remembered that he had been recruited for extra patrolling and wouldn’t be around. So, instead of rushing out of her room, the twenty year old lounged in her bed and waited for her mother to call up to inform her that the food was ready. After that, she hoisted herself out of her bed, walked downstairs and sat down with her mother to enjoy the pancakes. It wasn’t very often that Leah was home in the morning to be able to spend time with her mother, and she always felt horribly guilty about it. Thankfully, she was able to sort of make up for it that morning which seemed to please her mother. It was always so hard leaving Sue alone at home to go out on patrol since Leah knew how much the older woman worried that she would lose Leah or Seth in a fight, but Leah assured her every time that they would be fine…and they always were. She was grateful that Sam took her mother’s depression into consideration whenever he was sending them out on duty because he made it so that either Seth or Leah was always home with her unless they were both absolutely needed. Most of the time it was her, though, since he knew how uncomfortable they both were when they were in each other’s presence and that was fine with her. Seth was one of those people who needed to always be doing something, and wouldn’t be able to sit there and provide good company for their mother, so it was better that he was usually out. Plus, it helped keep his mind off of the less cheerful parts of his life.
After breakfast, her mother decided that a trip to the mall in Port Angeles was necessary and asked Leah if she wanted to go too. Normally, she would have been completely up for it, but since she hadn’t slept very well that night and was feeling lazy, she turned down the invitation so she could enjoy the peace and quiet of the empty house and relax for a bit. After waving goodbye to Leah, Sue made her way out the door and Leah sank down into the couch and pulled her book out of the end table drawer. She was looking forward to having a nice, quiet afternoon to herself and was planning to catch up on her book now that she had some time to do so without being distracted by one of Seth’s video games. It was going to be a good day, and Leah hoped that Sam wouldn’t suddenly decide she was needed for patrol that night.

His furry ears were pushed forward as far as they would go, swiveling every so often, listening for any kind of noise. His nose was on the ground, sniffing for anything that he could rip apart. That's all Jacob Ephraim Black ever wanted to do these days: rip vampires to pieces. There were vampires here but those were the ones he wasn't allowed to even touch. It frustrated his instincts to not be allowed to kill the vampires that were here in Washington and were not that far away. The Cullens' intentions were to take a human life, one of the few human lives that Jake actually cared about, Isabella Swan. He also knew they were engaged and his head was always thinking of what story it would be when she was turned. Whatever story it was, Jacob would always know the truth and he would hunt them down and kill them all....Except maybe Carlisle and Esme. They hadn't done anything wrong. He would kill the rest of that bloodsucker family. He'd even take down Bella if she got in his way, because it wouldn't be her anymore. Bells would be gone and in it's place, a filthy bloodsucker. She mind as well be dead once she was turned... Jacob snarled to himself. He tried to keep these thoughts to himself when he had the pack in his head but since he was alone out here, running around as a wolf, he was letting the thoughts sting him again and again. He knew that it wasn't healthy to think about the Cullens and the soon-to-be Cullen but he didn't care.
The other thought that made Jake's blood boil was the newly adopted Cullen member. She was a newborn and dangerous for Bells to even be around. Jacob wasn't used to her scent so he'd hunted her down a couple of times, not that he would've minded tearing her apart. He could easily kill her because she was so young but the problem was, Sam had added her to the no-kill list. Jake seriously hoped that she would slip because then he'd have something to do. It seemed that the treaty should be null because they were intending to take a human life. How would they be protecting human life if they were letting the bloodsuckers turn Bells and then starting a war with them? That wasn't protecting it, that was taking revenge after the deed was done. It just fully frustrated this wolf boy and he knew that he could take over the pack but he didn't want to do that. He'd just have to deal with the rules unless he could find a way around them. If Jacob couldn't find a way around them, nobody would be able to, because Jake was the master of getting around them. Patrol was over for him being alone but since Jake had signed up for double shifts, his new patrol would start with Seth but Sam had told him Jake didn't have to actually patrol; in fact, Sam had told Jake that he'd rather Jake just get some sleep. Jacob went human and put some shorts and a sleeveless shirt on so that he wasn't walking around La Push without a shirt, not that he minded doing that. Some of the people on the reservation didn't particularly like Jake running around without a shirt so Jake was wearing one today.... Not that he cared what people thought anymore. He was protecting them from possible attack so he also figured that he deserved some peace....But they didn't know that.
Jacob Ephraim Black walked slowly out of the forest and just kept walking. He was going to the Clearwaters' even though he was pretty sure Seth wasn't there. In fact, he was almost positive but he had to check. Jake stopped and closed his eyes because he had a headache and he didn't really want to deal with it. It was his own fault it had come in the first place but he wanted it to go away now. Jake let himself get moving and got to the Clearwaters' then he remembered Seth was supposed to patrol by himself and Jake was supposed to take the night shift all night. He looked down at the ground and sighed. Sleep deprivation did not suit the young Jacob Black but he was one of the most sleep deprived out of the pack....That was also his own fault. He signed up for it on his own free will. He walked up to the Clearwaters' door, hoping maybe Sue had something to eat and maybe she'd let him pass out on the couch or something. His fist knocked heavily on the door so that it would be heard anywhere in the house. Jesus, I just need some sleep. Please say Sue's here so i don't have to walk home......

Leah’s plan for the day didn’t include anything but relaxing and using her time off from patrolling to her ultimate advantage. She had already enjoyed the pancakes her mother had made in the morning and had been pleased to be able to sit and eat at a normal pace since there was no threat of Seth eating all of them before she got downstairs, and it was a nice change. It felt so nice to be able to wake up when she wanted and not have to worry about wasting her day away trying to catch up on the sleep she’d missed out on the previous night because of patrol. It was getting easier every night since she was getting used too it, but she knew that she would never fully be able to accept what she was now, even if it helped keep people safe from those stupid bloodsuckers and gave Leah a chance to kill some of them. It was so hard to keep to the treaty with the Cullens sometimes, and there were days when Leah desperately wanted to destory them entirely, but they hadn’t done anything to break the treaty yet, so she wasn’t going to either. Plus, the only one she was really angry with was Edward since he was the reason that Jacob couldn’t have Bella, and therefore caused the annoying thoughts that flowed through the heads of the entire pack when Jacob was phased. It was annoying to deal with, but she was patient with it because she knew the same pain, and frequently sent her own flowing through the pack’s minds too. That was one thing she and Jacob had in common, even though it wasn’t a good thing to have in common.
Needless to say, Leah was glad that she was able to escape that for at least a few days, something that she suspected Sam was partially behind. He knew how uncomfortable she sometimes felt around the pack, and how uncomfortable they felt around her since it was mostly misery that radiated off of her, and she silently thanked him for giving everyone a break from each other. She had not been planning to see anyone but her mother and possibly Seth, but she had changed into a pair of Bermuda shorts and an orange tank top anyway, and had her hair tied back into a braid. She had always been told she was a natural beauty, but because she liked to enhance that beauty she had put on some bronze eye shadow, black eyeliner and mascara. She normally wouldn’t have bothered to change or doll up if she already knew that she wasn’t going to be leaving her house, but today she decided too in case she got bored of being at home or got a phone call from one of the few friends she had left to go out and do something. Being ready for anything would save time and effort on her part, so that was a plus in her book. For now, however, Leah was content to just bask in the quiet and calmness of her empty house and read. After a while she knew she wouldn’t be able to stare down at the pages in front of her anymore because it would hurt her eyes, but for now she was fine. But, she still had a back up plan in case Seth came home and wanted the couch and television, or she got too bored to read anymore. That back up plan, however, was probably not going to be needed for a while since she had just sat down and gotten comfortable.
But, after reading a few pages, the doorbell rang. Sighing, she dropped the book on the couch, hoisted herself to her feet and went to the door, wrenching it open and not sure who to expect since as far as she knew, nobody in the Clearwater household was expecting company. Her blue eyes met the chocolate eyes of Jacob Black, who looked like he had been up all night judging by the bags under his eyes. Knowing Jacob, however, that was probably exactly the case since he tended to volunteer for double patrol. Personally, Leah found him crazy for it, but he had learned that it was better not to question him and his actions. It saved a lot of time and effort to just let him be. She guessed, however, that it had something to do with distracting himself from thoughts of Bella and her bloodsucker fiancé even though most of the time that failed miserably. She didn’t really blame him for being miserable about it because she was the same way when she found out that Sam and Emily were engaged, but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t still annoying to hear him pining for the stupid human girl every time the pack was out on patrol. Of course, Leah herself had no room to talk about annoying thoughts, but at least she had gotten somewhat better at keeping them concealed. After studying Jacob for a minute, Leah leaned against the doorjamb and gave him a look. “Wow, Jacob. You look like hell,”
she teased, still looking at the bags under his eyes. [/blockquote][/blockquote] tagged;; jacob black wordcount;; 873 outfit;; thisnotes;; n/a credit;; GREEN EGGS AND SAM! of caution 2.0 lyrics in text are from Forget Paris!

He could just about sleep anywhere without much problems...Anywhere but at home. On second thought, Jake would rather not pass out at the bloodsucker's lair either. Assuming he actually fell asleep there, he'd probably get poisoned by one of them, though Jacob Black probably trusted Carlisle. He wasn't sure if he actually did even though the guy had saved his life...He didn't trust any of the rest of them with his life while he was at his most vulnerable, sleeping, not even Esme. He mostly didn't trust Bella's bloodsucker or the blond. Jacob let his thoughts wander away from the thought of falling asleep at the lair. That would just bring odd nightmares later and Jake already had plenty of those without conjuring up some more. He sighed and looked down at the porch because he was practically falling asleep on his feet. Why did he have to run himself like a machine? Why did he insist on running patrol until he dropped? Because he was in pain and patrol soothed the pain. It wasn't healthy for him to be running patrol so much because he took the most shifts out of everybody in the pack. He took enough for patrol for three or four pack members. It was a neverending circle, patrol, sleep, eat, patrol, sleep, eat, sleep, patrol, etc. It just never stopped. He barely had a social life unless Bells decided to intrude or he had a patrol partner and even then he didn't talk/think much. He just focused on patrol. It offended Paul most of the time, not that Jake cared.
The good thing about Jacob, to the pack anyway, was that he was always ready to go. He basically had no life so he was convenient when somebody wanted to go somewhere and needed someone to take their shift. Jake was always up to it and sometimes he felt like he was being used but it was a welcome relief from being at home or something. Jake was just convenient to everybody and he got used quite often though Sam didn't like it a whole lot that he was always out running around as a wolf, exhausting himself fully. Jake obviously didn't care because he was always out. It was better than being at home. It was better than feeling frustrated that he couldn't kill the coven that wasn't too far from here that was about to take a human life. It was frustrating to Jacob, that as a pack, they were not taking down the coven that was about to take a human life and the pack knew it. How was the pack any good if they weren't preventing human loss? How were they doing any good to exist if they weren't going to take down vampires? Jacob was persistent on this subject but Sam thought it was only because Jake cared so much about Bells herself. Maybe the alpha was correct but how did that make a difference? It seemed that Sam was more worried about other people rather than the people that the pack cared about most. Jake knew that Sam would put the pack in danger for Emily, why wouldn't he do it for Bells? Because he didn't care too much about Bells but that didn't matter to Jake. Jacob cared about her and it was frustrating that Sam understood but wouldn't help Jacob Ephraim Black with his frustration.
Jacob also knew that the pack found him crazy for doing so much patrol and thinking so much about the girl that would never, ever come back to him. They thought he was crazy for caring so much about somebody who wasn't reciprocating but Jake did care. He couldn't help it because Bells was somebody that had known the family for years. Then again.......So was Leah. He had memories with both of them but he hadn't meant for his feelings for her to come unburied because he knew he had no chance with her too. There would be no way in hell Leah would even be his friend again... Much less date him. He sighed and then suddenly his dark brown, chocolate eyes met the blue ones of Leah Clearwater. Jacob knew the pack was too hard on her and he knew he was unfair to her when he was mean. He was the exact same way, it was something the two of them shared, not that Jake wanted to have that kind of thing in common with the other girl he liked.... He did though, so why was he so mean? Jacob couldn't answer that question but maybe it was for the same reason Leah was cruel to him about Bella. Either way, they were both evil to each other and Jake regretted that whole heartedly. He was so out of it because he was so exhausted..... He answered stupidly, " Yeah well.... You don't. Have a couch I can borrow and food I can eat? "

Leah was happy to say that she had actually gotten a decent night’s sleep, which really helped her stay in a good mood as opposed to her usual bitter and annoyed one. When she was in a good mood, she knew she was a whole lot easier to get along with and tolerate, but she wasn’t seeing the pack today so she had no way to test that on them. Part of her was curious to see what they would think of the cheerful side of her, and part of her didn’t care because she figured as soon as she stepped into their presence, her good mood would fade away. That was usually the case when it came to them, since they were all convinced that she was this miserable, bitchy person that could never smile and be happy. They were wrong, naturally, but she had never really done anything to prove them wrong so it didn’t really matter anyway. She had given up caring what people thought about her a long time ago, and that wasn’t going to change any time soon. Yes, she had a temper that tended to flare in the pack’s presence and having to hear Sam’s thoughts about Emily, but she did still have a heart. She had been upset when Jacob got hurt getting that newborn off her back, hadn’t she? She hadn’t exactly thanked him by calling him and idiot and saying she’d had it, but that was just how she dealt with emotions sometimes. Plus, she had promised to verbally thank him face to face next time she saw him in human form, which was apparently going to be now since he was currently standing on her front porch, looking like he could just pass out right there.
This brought her to the question of why it was her house that he had gone too instead of his own, but the answer to that was quite clear. Her house was closer to where Sam had them patrolling lately and if he was as tired as he looked then he would have probably passed out in some random place in wolf form. People in town were still making comments about the giant wolves they kept spotting every once in a while despite the pack doing their best to stay hidden, and if one of them was found passed out in public view then it was probably not going to end well. Personally, Leah found Jacob insane for how much patrolling her volunteered to do, but that was the general consensus within the pack. Most of them, including Sam, had tried to convince him to give himself a break and not tire himself out so much but of course, he never listened; he was too stubborn for that. Leah guessed that it was his way of dealing with the fact that the girl he loved was marrying someone else, and a bloodsucker at that, and she pretty sure that she was right considering the thoughts always swimming through his head while they were on patrol. Being sleep deprived and running until she couldn’t move her legs anymore was not Leah’s choice for coping, but it was probably somewhat better than turning into a stone cold bitch that pushed everyone away like her. Thankfully, she was getting better at letting people in, but there was still room for improvement even though she doubted that anything would improve.
This was the first time since their fight so long ago that Leah had ever been in Jacob’s presence without at least one other person there with them, and she had to admit that it felt odd. They had been friends all those years ago, and now they never talked. It was part of their agreement to forget about ever being friends. She really had no idea what had happened between the two of them, but their arrangement had been working out for them so far. It had been hard at first, but it got easier since he walked away so willingly. It had hurt at first that to see him do it so easily, but after the Sam thing she could tolerate pain and had basically gotten over it. She regretted whatever had happened to break their friendship and regretted being cruel and mean to him every time she was, but it was too late to take it back so she just didn’t try. She blinked for a moment, taken aback at his comment about how she looked, but decided to ignore it. Instead, she thought about whether she should let him in or not, considering nobody else was home and it could be awkward. “Yeah, I guess. Come in,”
she said after a few minutes, stepping aside to let him past. If he would just eat and then sleep then there would be no chance for anything to be awkward, or so she hoped. “Food then sleep, or vice versa?” [/blockquote][/blockquote] tagged;; jacob black wordcount;; 826 outfit;; thisnotes;; n/a credit;; GREEN EGGS AND SAM! of caution 2.0 lyrics in text are from Forget Paris! Why did he insist on patrolling 'til he dropped just about dead? Did he really have something to prove? Was it because he had to be the number one pack member? Jake was struggling with the concept and he'd been asked many times why but he couldn't answer. His main answer, which was a lie, was that he was trying to distract himself from the pain of Bella. It never worked so he knew the pack didn't understand it, and quite frankly, Jacob Ephraim Black didn't understand it either. He couldn't figure out why he felt the need to run around in his wolf form. It was just as painful as running around in human form and the thoughts generally came when he was stuck in wolf form, patrolling by himself. The thoughts just got worse when he was alone. If he would just stick it out and hang out with people, he probably would be in a healthier state. So why did he insist on making himself miserable? Was he punishing himself? If he was punishing himself, why was he? What was there to be punishing himself for? He hadn't done much wrong had he? Sure, he made mistakes like everybody else but nothing to beat himself up over, right? So why the hell did he feel the need to push himself to exhaustion? All he did was sleep, eat, patrol, sleep, eat, patrol, eat, sleep. It was just a never ending cycle. Bottom line was, Jake had no life.
Jacob wasn't sure why he was standing here at the Clearwaters' either. He was exhausted and just needed some sleep which he could easily do at home. His bed was tiny and less comfortable but it'd be less awkward to sleep at his house than here with Leah running around the house. They had been best friends but then they'd both turned their backs on one another. Jake had watched from the sidelines, watched her go from friendly and happy to sad and confused, mostly hurt though. He watched her build up walls and not let anybody in. Jake paid more attention to Leah than most people knew. He wasn't a stalker but he paid attention to her personality changes. He knew for a fact that she was still hurting over Sam which was what they shared. He was hurting over Bella and she was hurting from Sam. Both of them were healing, so why weren't they friends? Why weren't they talking and taking their pains and shouldering both? Why weren't they at each other's hips trying to force their way through the pain? Oh right, because they'd promised not to speak to each other anymore. They'd turned their backs on each other and it seemed to Jake there was no turning back. He was still mad at himself for leaving her so easily. Though it hadn't been easy for him...He'd just felt that she needed time to herself to heal. She hadn't healed yet and now Jake couldn't turn around and help her feel better.
Jacob still couldn't believe that he was still standing here. He knew both Sue and Seth were gone judging by the noise in there and the both of them were not on civil speaking terms....So why was Jake here? Was it because he wanted to rekindle their friendship? Of course he did, but this wasn't really the time, now was it? He was tired and hungry and she was probably spending time reading a book or something. He sighed, and stepped in when she moved. " Thanks. "
He really did appreciate it and he'd like to say so but he was too tired to care about being really appreciative. He'd thank her better later; for now, all he wanted to do was curl up on the couch and just fall asleep or eat something. He was so famished and he totally owed Leah one, not that he wanted to be owing anybody anything. There was pain present in his eyes just from seeing Leah again in a civil way. He hoped she'd assume it was Bella because honestly, he didn't want to explain anything. He chose his words carefully and spoke slowly, " You got it right. How have you been doing anyway? " What the hell? Why'd he ask that? He let himself take a deep breath. He was so tired and now he was going to have to see how Leah reacted him asking her how she was. That was unusual for Jake, even when he was exhausted. His feelings were slowly bleeding through. " speaking " thinking [/blockquote][/blockquote] NOTES: wooo! Leah was still finding this entire situation a bit strange. Last time Jacob had been inside her house, they had had the huge argument that had ended their friendship and made them stop talking. After that, they didn’t make any effort to see each other or anything, and he didn’t even come over to see Seth. The only time Leah was ever at the Blacks’ house was to meet up with Rachel to go out before she’d gone away to school, and that was how it had been for many years. So, it had been a surprise to her to open the door and find him standing on the porch, looking overly exhausted. It made sense for him to be there since her house was closer to the typical patrol areas, which was what she guessed he’d been doing before knocking on her door. She didn’t understand why he pushed himself to the point of nearly passing out with exhaustion, but she also didn’t make an attempt to understand. Jacob’s mind was a pretty complicated and confusing place that Leah preferred to stay out of, but sometimes she had no choice. She was sure she had questioned him once about it and he’d simply shrugged it off and ignored the question, so she just didn’t bring it up anymore. One day, however, she was determined to get to the bottom of it.
She guessed that the other reason for him showing up there was because his bed at home was too small for him now that he’d shot up and his feet hung over the sides, but she wasn’t completely sure. Either way, she wasn’t going to turn him away. Plus, it wasn’t like he was actually there to hang out or talk or anything; as soon as he had eaten something he’d be passing out on the couch or in the spare bedroom, and she would be free to continue on with her plans for the day without worrying about trying to keep a conversation going. After he woke up, however, that might be a different story. In all honesty, she was tired of the constant firing of insults between the two of them and hated the obvious displeasure they both felt when forced to be in each other’s presence. It hadn’t been a pretty few years since she’d pushed him away, and she honestly wanted to make up for all of it if she could. The only problem was that she thought it might be too late, and they wouldn’t be able to mend their broken relationship. But on the off chance that it wasn’t, maybe it could happen. Admittedly, Leah had not wanted to end the friendship at all, but since Jacob had seemed to, she’d gone along with it too. Plus, the argument they’d had that day hadn’t helped matters at all. Thinking back, she couldn’t even remember what they’d fought about, but it had probably been something stupid. Small things tended to get Leah riled up, but she was getting better at keeping her anger and annoyance in check – or so she thought, anyway.
Leah waited for Jacob to step inside the house, then she shut the door and lingered near it for a minute. It was weird to have him there, but she’d already invited him so she wasn’t going to turn around and make him leave; plus, part of her didn’t want him to leave now that he was there. “No problem,”
she responded simply, starting to move towards the kitchen. Luckily, there was extra pasta left over from last night’s dinner, so she quickly took it out of the fridge and threw in the microwave. As she waited for it to finish heating up, she walked back to the kitchen’s entrance and leaned against the empty doorframe. She had always loved the fact that she could see the living room from the kitchen, and it was especially convenient now. His question surprised her, and after taking a moment to get over that surprise she shrugged. “Alright, I guess. Life’s kind of boring, but that’s my own fault,” she responded, not sure what he was expecting her to say. It was the truth, and something told her he was expecting an answer like that. “And, uh, how have you been?” she asked, feeling a little awkward. She was pretty sure she knew what he was going to say, but she asked him anyway just to be polite. Just then, she heard the microwave beep and walked over to take the pasta out. “Here. Leftovers from last night, she said, handing the plate over and waiting for an answer.
