The little black car, courtesy the Cullen family since the truck had finally croaked to Bella’s complete disappointment, swerved down the long driveway that led to the Cullen house. Bella drove it slowly, afraid she’d break it if she wasn’t careful. She had suspicions about the car sporting some sort of armor, maybe the Cullens had had it custom made specifically for a klutzy human, but it wasn’t her life she was worried about damaging at the moment, it was the shiny exterior of the new car. Even though the inside was equally as pretty as the outside and had just about anything (she figured) Edward would want her to have in a car (GPS, which she suspected was some sort of joke from Emmett because who the hell could get lost in Forks?; stereo, which she couldn’t figure out how to work half the time; tinted windows, probably for the benefit of the Cullens, or maybe her after the change on sunny days), Bella missed her big, old, red truck that sounded like a lawnmower taking on a humungous branch in a yard.
Bella felt sort of guilty for leaving the house today, but she couldn’t stand being around Charlie in his mopy state. It wasn’t like she could really blame her dad; it really must have been a shock for him to hear from his eighteen-year-old daughter who had practically sworn off marriage that she was getting married to a guy (vampire, but Charlie didn’t need to know that) who he practically loathed. But at the same time, he needed to get over it. Just like Bella needed to get over it. The wedding wasn’t on her top things to look forward to list. After the wedding, sure, that was up there with spending the rest of her (hopefully) very long existence with the only person she couldn’t live without. She couldn’t say that he was the only guy she loved anymore, Jacob Black had seen to that when he made her realize her feelings right before that newborn war, but she could live without Jake, if she needed to.
Just thinking about the werewolf sort of made her heart hurt. She could see all too clearly exactly what a life with Jacob would have been like: she’d live on the reservation, help Emily take care of the pack, become someone who the pack didn’t feel they had to hate, and eventually, there might even be kids in the picture. Ouch. She could feel the pain in her chest where Jacob had created his own little hole. Part of her wished that she hadn’t gone to the Rez that day when Edward had disappeared and Bella had gotten the sudden urge for an adrenaline rush and found the bikes. Only part of her, because without her going to the reservation, she wouldn’t have jumped off a cliff (cliff diving, not suicide, she told herself, though when she thought she was dying it was peaceful because she had imagined Edward there) and though she also wouldn’t have had to go to Volterra, she wouldn’t have gotten Edward back. Of course, because of that whole mess the Volturi were now expecting her to become like them sooner rather than later, which was fine with Bella but didn’t seem fine with Edward. She was afraid to tell him that she was afraid of the Volturi coming back to see that she was still human, because then he would insist that they not change her. Edward, and most of the Cullens for that matter, seemed to think that this should be her choice and that if she was afraid for any reason they should postpone the inevitable. Alice had seen Bella become like them and Bella had no intentions of changing that particular future, but the red-eyed vampires certainly made Bella want to move things along that much faster.
She stopped the car and got out, walking toward the Cullen house, unsure of herself now that she was there. What if it was just Rosalie at home? Their last meeting in the woods hadn’t really gone very well, Bella didn’t think she was making any progress with the beautiful blond. Or what if it was just Bree. That thought had her stopping on the porch, a few feet away from the door. Maybe she should turn around and go back home. If she’d escaped Bree’s notice so far, she could probably get away. But someone was almost always with the newborn. With that logic at the front of her brain, Bella walked into the house (it seemed silly to knock when everyone would know you were there anyway and she was practically family if what most of the Cullens had said were true about how they considered her one of them already) and quietly shut the door. She took a moment to look around the empty living room. Maybe no one was home. Or maybe they were all out back. The human felt odd, like she had broken into a house and was sneaking around, though she didn’t walk any different from normal as she headed to the kitchen and looked out the window. No one that she could see. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she wondered where everyone could be. For all she knew, they were all upstairs. They’d probably heard her walk in and were deep in conversation, or thought, or something else.

___________________________________________________________"Thank you very much," Edward said nodding to the sales clerk that was standing behind the counter in front of him. Grabbing the bags that were lying on the counter top of the stores checkout station he gracefully swung them down to his side. It wasn't quite a weird sight for the certain Cullen to be around shopping by his self, but it was kind of awkward, he would admit. Plus, he need to get a few things without his fiancee, Bella, being around. Lately he had felt her starting to drift, and where he was the one to think that money and gifts didn't by love, they did help a bit. When he had left the house, only a few people had been home, and he hoped that by the time he got back they would all be gone without realizing that he had left. Looking down to his old, battered, up watch for the time he realized that he had been gone for hours; well, there went the plan of him going back to the house with no one realizing that he had even been gone. With chores and stuff to do, he figured that everyone had fled the house. For some reason he had a feeling that he'd be facing the wrath of his mother Esme when he reached home. Chuckling at the thought, he thanked the clerk once again and swiftly exited the store.
Quickly opening the door to his shiny silver Volvo, knowing that he should be in a rush to get home, he lightly threw the bags into the front seat and positioned himself in front of the wheel. Tugging at his seat belt Edward's golden eyes searched inside of the bags as well as they could for something that he had just bought. Reaching into one of the many plastic present holders he pulled out the present that he had just bought for Bella. It was a large black frame, stoned with gold down the side, that would soon hold a picture of Bella, looking quite beautiful and younger, and him, looking exactly as he did now, for he never changed, from when they had first met. Edward, for an early wedding present, was going to try to ensure her that it was okay to be human, not looking for the change ahead. Edward knew that this wouldn't work against his stubborn fiancee, but it was worth a try.Taking a deep unneeded breath, something that he had picked up while acting like a human for so long, he carefully stuffed the picture frame pack into it's rightful bag. Making sure that everything was secure enough to stay in place when he started to drive he nodded and kept his arm over the bags. Using one hand to quickly start the ignition he put the car into reverse, backed out, switched gears and then put it in drive.
After a short while of Edward basically driving like a crazy maniac, not something he did much unless he was in a hurry, he was finally able to to swiftly pull into the long driveway that led to the Cullen's house. Arm still placed over the bags as the car bounced around going up the tiny gravel road, he started to tune himself in on the thoughts around him. As he put the car into park he focused more on the thoughts around him, hearing nothing. Tilting his head a little he felt the presence of someone, that person having to being Bella, and knew that once he stepped inside there would be some kind of needed talk. Looking over to the many bags of present in the seat next to him and frowned a bit. Maybe he shouldn't give this to her, maybe it was a really bad idea; while Edward was a vampire and didn't have many issues with common sense, he did have them with relationships. Grabbing the bag with the frame in it, he pulled it and himself out of the car, slamming the door behind him to let everyone know he was home. Climbing the stairs to the front door he pushed it open, wondering what exactly was going on inside. Setting the bag with Bella's present in it down on a nearby chair he looked around, immediately spotting the only girl he truly loved.
Strolling over to Bella he grabbed her hands and held them out to her side. "You look....beautiful, as always." He finished knowing that the word he just used to describe his beautiful girlfriend wasn't nearly accurate as he wanted it to be. Pulling her into a hug and giving her a soft kiss on the forehead he looked down to her and smiled a sympathetic type of smile. All the stuff she had been put through in these past few weeks was, well, a downing. On both of them. While Edward was still trying to accept the fact that Bella loved not only him, but Jacob, she was being put through withdrawls and backstabbing from said person. It was amazing how things in this world could change so quickly, and this one had been fairly shocking considering the many centuries he had already been through. None the less, he was just trying his best to help her through it, knowing that he need to leave his feelings behind him and focus more directly on hers. "How are you feeling? Hungry? We could call in something to eat, or even go get something if you want," he asked knowing that she would probably reject, because he couldn't eat, him self. ___________________________________________________________

Bella chewed lightly on her bottom lip while she thought. In a few months the house would be decorated for a party that Bella wasn’t really excited about attending. She’d wear a dress that Alice would insist was fabulous and probably cost more money than Bella had spent in her life to this point put together. She had a horrible vision of a big white blob (her, of course) tripping down an aisle. As if that weren’t enough, she’d already started having nightmares about her coming down the aisle and Edward not being there. What if he backed out at last minute? He’d be completely within his rights, Bella thought, since she had put him through so much. She wondered if she’d been talking in her sleep during these dreams and if she had if Edward had begun to realize he was engaged to a crazy woman. If he hadn’t already realized it, anyway. Bella tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and sighed. She couldn’t help but think that she’d already ruined everything.
Just when she was thinking about leaving, Bella’s fiancée came home. The human’s heart sped up slightly with the closeness of the vampire she’d fallen in love with when she moved to Forks. They’d been through a lot already and they were still together; that should have told Bella all she needed to know about her future. He’d saved her from James, Victoria and an army of newborns. She saved him from killing himself in Italy. Well, she’d also caused the reason for him wanting to kill himself, and that made her feel really guilty. She kept telling herself that when she was changed into a vampire, after the year mark she’d be able to save him just as much. Or at least she wouldn’t need saving as often.
For a minute she just stared at her vampire; he was absolutely perfect. It was easy to see when he was near that she had made the right choice. This was the person she couldn’t live without. She loved Jacob Black, but he was supposed to be her friend. She would do her best to keep him her friend and Edward wouldn’t have to feel angry if she spent time with the werewolf. This was where she belonged. If the world had no vampires or werewolves, maybe her and Jake would have worked out. But that wasn’t how things were and the only reason she had probably even lived through her time in Forks was because she had met Edward. He kept her alive, even if he did sort of want to drink her blood every time he was around her. All the more reason to change her!
The vampire took her breath away. She wanted to reach out and run her fingers through his bronze colored hair or trace her fingers on his marble-like face. His touch sent chills through her body that had nothing to do with the fact that his skin was so cold and everything to do with the way he made her heart race. “I think you’re incredibly biased when it comes to my appearance.” Her voice sounded a little teasing, though she meant what she said. She was pretty sure that she wasn’t as pretty as Edward always said she was. She was pale and awkward and according to Alice needed a major fashion adjustment. But she didn’t want to get into a huge argument about how unattractive she was. It was just really unfair that Edward could be so drop dead gorgeous with the face and body of a male model and Bella had to be just really plain.
“I’m not hungry,” she shook her head and smiled, purposefully ignoring the question about how she was feeling. She didn’t want to tell him that she was confused about Jacob and that she didn’t think Rosalie was ever going to like her. The blond had found her in the woods while Bella was trying to find the meadow by herself, and Rosalie hadn’t been exactly friendly; no big surprise, but it just felt like no matter what Bella did she couldn’t do anything right in the eyes of Edward’s beautiful blond adopted sister. It just made things worse knowing that Rosalie was meant for Edward. Then there was the fact that she’d been having nightmares, some of them about the wedding. There was also the fact that in a few months Bella would be a vampire. She wanted this so bad; she’d fought for it ever since she’d found out what Edward was. This was the only way the could be together. But at the same time, she knew that all she would want to do is drink human blood for the first year. That scared her.
She wrapped her arms around Edward’s shoulders, standing on her toes. The closeness was intoxicating and she was afraid that at any moment Edward’s old fashioned values would kick in and push her away. Maybe not though, he seemed to like the closeness sometimes as much as she did, even if he wouldn’t give her the one thing she wanted before she became a vampire… at least not until after they were married. Stupid Virtue. But Bella was going to do this right. She’d already promised and it wasn’t so much the idea of being Mrs. Cullen that she minded as much as going through with a ceremony that meant very little to her. Then again, she was doing this for Charlie too. “I just didn’t want to be at home right now. Charlie’s there and he’s just lounging around the house all upset.” She smiled a little. “How are you feeling?” Of course she was just making sure nothing had changed for him. Vampires didn’t really get sick, but she wanted to make sure Edward still wanted to marry her, even if she hadn’t really answered that question herself, she still wanted to know that she wouldn’t be the only one there on their wedding day.
